Evolution® Medial-Pivot

KNEE PROSTHESIS WITH NATURAL KINEMATICS

In partnership with MicroPort, Lapé Médical distributes the Evolution® Medial-Pivot knee throughout France.

The Evolution® Medial-Pivot is a three-compartment prosthesis designed for total replacement of the natural knee joint.

  • A design* based on two biomechanical concepts of the natural knee:
    • The congruent medial compartment, with a convex femoral sphere in a concave tibial sphere, enabling:
      • Restoration of natural movement
      • Anteroposterior stability in flexion and extension
      • Reproduction of the physiological vertical axis of rotation centred on the medial compartment
    • The mobile, non-congruent lateral compartment, which allows the baseplate to move forward and backward under the condyle during the flexion/extension cycle. This rotational kinematics, combined with stability, the unique radius of curvature of the condyles and the design of the trochlea, promotes physiological patellar tracking, limiting the problems potentially observed with traditional prostheses, such as quadriceps insufficiency and anterior pain.
  • An anatomical design: The tibial baseplate is lateralised, with a right and left version, promoting morphological bone-prosthesis matching. The bone coverage thus obtained limits the risk of tilting and soft tissue interference.
  • Preserved bone stock: As stability is achieved through medial compartment congruence, there is no need for a standard femoral box cut, allowing for conservative cuts and preservation of bone stock.
  • Stability in flexion:
    • Promoted by high medial congruence and condyles with constant radii of curvature
    • Increased flexion and improved quadriceps efficiency achieved through a single radius of curvature
  • A wear-limiting design: Restoring natural movement helps limit stress peaks, and therefore wear of the polyethylene insert.
  • Ergonomic instrumentation and space saving on the operating table:
    • The instrumentation for the Medial Pivot prosthesis has been designed for both minimally invasive and standard surgical techniques, allowing for three different approaches: medial parapatellar, subvastus or midvastus.
    • It allows for both adjustable orthogonal targeting and kinematic alignment.
    • The steps are therefore easily reproducible from one procedure to the next.
    • All of the instruments can be organised into a limited number of containers, thus taking up minimal space on the table.
